How much does a car service cost and what should it include?

A service price only makes sense alongside its scope. An oil-and-filter change is not automatically equivalent to a service including other filters, inspections and additional scheduled work.

General guide Editorial review: 17 October 2026

Request a VIN-specific quote showing the oil product and quantity, filter references, labour, VAT and additional work separately.

3. Compare like-for-like quotes

Use: oil + filters due + consumables + labour + approved extras. Check whether VAT is already included before adding it.

  1. Give both workshops the same VIN, mileage and history. Request the same work.
  2. Compare totals with matching specifications, products and quantities, not just hourly rates.
  3. Ask whether checks, seals, waste handling and VAT are included. Require approval before extra work.
  4. Keep the quote and invoice with date and mileage. A starting price without identifying the engine is not a confirmed total.

4. When to book

Follow the VIN- and engine-specific schedule, including severe-use instructions. Where both time and mileage limits apply, use whichever comes first. An online example is not a universal interval.

Short journeys, urban driving and operating conditions can affect servicing needs. Interpret the service indicator using the manual; resetting it does not complete the work. A hybrid still needs maintenance for its combustion engine.

5. Sensible ways to save

  1. Compare packages with the same scope and check promotion eligibility.
  2. Buy compatible consumables from traceable suppliers; a premium brand does not replace the required specification.
  3. Combine work where the workshop confirms an actual labour saving.
  4. Separate scheduled maintenance from optional recommendations and request evidence for proposed repairs.

Frequently asked questions

Does servicing include the timing belt?

Usually it is a separate job. Check the quotation and timing-system schedule explicitly.

Is RON 570 a price for every car?

No. It is a conditional Ford promotional example, not a price for all makes or engines.
