1. Identify the transmission

  1. Request the gearbox code by VIN and service invoices. Confirm whether filter, seals or specific adaptations are required.
  2. Find the vehicle manufacturer schedule for the model and market and ask the shop which reference it uses.

2. Interval and operating conditions

  1. For certain ZF automatics, ZF recommends a change at 150,000 km, potentially sooner under severe use; this is not universal.
  2. For DSG use the exact vehicle schedule, not the DSG name or gear count alone.

3. What to include in a quote

  1. Request fluid specification and quantity, filter or pan if applicable, seals and labour as separate lines.
  2. Confirm the specified fluid level and temperature procedure. Ask for a written quote; prices vary.
  3. For harsh shifts, leaks or warnings request diagnosis; a fluid change does not guarantee a repair.
