Separate damage and assessment entries

Read the event type, date and estimate range. An assessment is not a paid invoice, and amounts should not automatically be added together.

Pause if the VIN does not match

Resolve any difference between vehicle markings, documents and the report before paying a deposit. An empty report does not confirm that the car has never been damaged.

A practical check before travelling

Request a clear photo of the VIN on the car and the relevant documents, then arrange dates and mileage readings in order. Keep a budget for an independent inspection.

Where to find and compare the VIN

  1. Find the number on the vehicle

Some models show the VIN through the windscreen. A door-frame label or a stamped marking may be elsewhere; check the manufacturer’s manual for your model.

  2. Compare all 17 characters

Compare the marking with the vehicle documents and report. Do not confuse an engine code or a part number with the VIN.

  3. Resolve differences before paying

Do not scrape or alter markings. If a number is missing, hard to read or does not match, ask a specialist to verify the vehicle’s identity.

Which engine suits your use?

1.2 16V / 1.0 SCe

For urban use and controlled spending, consider a naturally aspirated petrol if modest performance is acceptable. Verify the exact engine in the documents.

0.9 TCe / LPG

For mixed use, compare turbo petrol and LPG. Ask for installation history and test operation on both fuels.

1.5 dCi

For longer journeys, compare diesel on consumption and history. Do not choose it solely for promised fuel savings.

Documented issues and inspection priorities

  • ADAC flags suspension wear, brakes, lighting and oil leaks on the Logan MCV. These are inspection priorities, not inevitable failures. Source
  • The report describes slow shifts with Easy-R. Test it in traffic before deciding whether it suits you. Source

A reported issue does not establish its frequency in Romania or mean every car is affected.

Costs: published Romanian examples

Prices checked on 17 October 2026. These are individual examples, not market averages or guaranteed quotes for your car. Confirm by VIN, location and package contents.

Separate routine servicing from overdue timing, brake and suspension work. Include installation-specific servicing for LPG.

Pre-purchase checklist

  1. Compare the vehicle VIN with the documents and request invoice history, not just a stamped service book.
  2. Request a cold start. Watch warning lights, idle, smoke and noises without revving a cold engine hard.
  3. Have all accessible modules scanned, including stored and pending faults. A clean scan alone does not prove the car is healthy.
  4. Arrange a road test and an independent lift inspection: brakes, tyres, leaks, corrosion and accident repairs.
  5. Ask the brand network to confirm applicable campaigns and completed work by VIN.
  6. Obtain an itemised written quote for findings and assess the purchase price together with these costs.
  7. For LPG, request the installation documents and a leak check by a qualified workshop. Stop the assessment if gas is smelled.
  8. For timing service, request the invoice and the interval for the exact engine; do not copy another Logan’s schedule.

When to pause the purchase

Pause if the seller refuses independent inspection or cannot explain the history. Low oil pressure, overheating, fuel smells or severe noises need assessment before another road test.
