Separate damage and assessment entries

Read the event type, date and estimate range. An assessment is not a paid invoice, and amounts should not automatically be added together.

Pause if the VIN does not match

Resolve any difference between vehicle markings, documents and the report before paying a deposit. An empty report does not confirm that the car has never been damaged.

A practical check before travelling

Request a clear photo of the VIN on the car and the relevant documents, then arrange dates and mileage readings in order. Keep a budget for an independent inspection.

Where to find and compare the VIN

  1. Find the number on the vehicle

Some models show the VIN through the windscreen. A door-frame label or a stamped marking may be elsewhere; check the manufacturer’s manual for your model.

  2. Compare all 17 characters

Compare the marking with the vehicle documents and report. Do not confuse an engine code or a part number with the VIN.

  3. Resolve differences before paying

Do not scrape or alter markings. If a number is missing, hard to read or does not match, ask a specialist to verify the vehicle’s identity.

Which engine suits your use?

1.6 Ti-VCT

For moderate mileage, compare naturally aspirated petrol if performance suits you. A road test matters more than calling an engine “simple”.

1.0 EcoBoost

It may suit mixed use, but request evidence of oil, timing and cooling maintenance. Follow the schedule confirmed by Ford for the exact engine.

1.5 / 1.6 / 2.0 TDCi

For long journeys, compare diesel condition and history. With Powershift, identify the exact transmission and required work before buying.

Documented issues and inspection priorities

  • ADAC flags suspension, exhaust corrosion, lighting and oil leaks on the Focus III. Source
  • The report describes an overheating-related campaign for certain 1.6 EcoBoost cars. Ask Ford to check campaigns by VIN; it does not cover every Focus III. Source

A reported issue does not establish its frequency in Romania or mean every car is affected.

Ford Motorcraft service, eligible passenger cars

from 680 RON

Țiriac Auto example: oil/oil filter, air filter, checks and diagnostics. Confirm eligibility by VIN.

VAT included according to the source. Source

A Motorcraft service is not a timing-system replacement or gearbox service. Request separate itemised parts/labour quotes for those jobs.

Pre-purchase checklist

  1. Compare the vehicle VIN with the documents and request invoice history, not just a stamped service book.
  2. Request a cold start. Watch warning lights, idle, smoke and noises without revving a cold engine hard.
  3. Have all accessible modules scanned, including stored and pending faults. A clean scan alone does not prove the car is healthy.
  4. Arrange a road test and an independent lift inspection: brakes, tyres, leaks, corrosion and accident repairs.
  5. Ask the brand network to confirm applicable campaigns and completed work by VIN.
  6. Obtain an itemised written quote for findings and assess the purchase price together with these costs.
  7. Request cooling-system leak checks and an explanation for repeated coolant top-ups or prior overheating.
  8. Test the transmission cold and warm, including slow manoeuvres; have the cause of vibration identified.

When to pause the purchase

Pause if the seller refuses independent inspection or cannot explain the history. Low oil pressure, overheating, fuel smells or severe noises need assessment before another road test.
