Diesel particulate filter

Traps particles from a diesel engine’s exhaust. Regeneration burns soot under manufacturer-defined conditions.

Key point

A warning does not automatically justify forced regeneration. Check loading, sensors and the cause; burning soot does not remove ash.

How this term is used in diagnostics

A component or system name does not prove that the part has failed. Read the complete code, symptoms and live data, then follow documentation for the exact engine and equipment.
