P2510: ECM / PCM Power Relay Sense Circuit Range/Performance — what it means, the affected system and what to check before replacing parts.
Meaning, symptoms, causes and checks
ECM/PCM power-relay feedback: The monitored response fails its expected range or performance relationship, rather than specifying one failed component. This is feedback from the power relay, not simply the command sent to it. Compare the controller-specific command and feedback interpretation; do not assume the entire module is defective.
Affected system: Engine/powertrain controller electrical supply
Symptoms
- The engine warning lamp may illuminate.
- Hard starting, failure to start or unexpected engine shutdown are possible when the power relay does not operate correctly.
Possible causes
- A power relay that operates incorrectly or has damaged contacts.
- Loose, overheated or corroded terminals, connectors or wiring in the relay circuit.
- An ECM/PCM fault remains possible after the relay circuit has been eliminated as the cause.
What to check
- Confirm the code and related electrical faults with a diagnostic scanner; inspect battery voltage and connections.
- Locate the controller power relay and inspect it, its socket and nearby wiring for loose contacts or heat damage.
- Using the exact vehicle diagram, test relay operation and the monitored feedback signal against expected states.
- Investigate the controller only if supply, relay and wiring checks are satisfactory.
