P2400: EVAP System Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit/Open — what it means, the affected system and what to check before replacing parts.
Meaning, symptoms, causes and checks
EVAP System Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit/Open. Basic catalogue definition; diagnostic details have not yet been reviewed.
Affected system: Powertrain
Symptoms
- The check-engine light may illuminate while the vehicle otherwise drives normally.
- An EVAP monitoring fault may be reported during an emissions-system test.
Possible causes
- Open or damaged wiring, a loose or corroded connector in the leak-detection pump control circuit.
- A defective detection pump or, less commonly, its controller may interrupt the electrical command.
What to check
- Record P2400 and any companion EVAP codes before clearing them.
- Inspect the pump connector and control wiring for disconnection, corrosion or damage.
- Check supply, ground and control-circuit continuity to the vehicle's wiring diagram; verify commanded pump operation before replacing a component.
