P2006 — Intake-manifold runner control, bank 1 — stuck closed

P2006 concerns intake-manifold runner control, bank 1.

Meaning, symptoms, causes and checks

P2006 concerns intake-manifold runner control, bank 1. The monitor reports that the controlled mechanism remains in the closed state. The closed-state report concerns the manifold runner mechanism. Bank 1 is the monitored bank, not a universal left/right location.

Affected system: Intake-manifold airflow control

Symptoms

  • The check-engine light may illuminate when bank-1 intake runners do not reach their commanded position.
  • High-rpm power may be reduced; some systems can otherwise feel normal.

Possible causes

  • Intake-runner flaps or linkage sticking due to deposits or mechanical wear.
  • Vacuum hose leak or control-solenoid fault on vacuum-operated systems.
  • Runner-position sensor, electrical actuator or wiring faults depending on the installed design.
  • VAG vacuum cases are examples only for the engine applications named in service bulletins.

What to check

  • Save P2006, IMRC command data and related faults; identify bank 1 and actuator type for the engine.
  • With engine off inspect visible connectors, hoses and linkages without forcing the runner flaps.
  • For vacuum-operated systems have a workshop check the vacuum supply and control solenoid per OEM instructions; not every engine uses vacuum.
  • For electric systems use a compatible scanner to compare requested and reported runner position and check power/wiring.
  • If position does not follow command, check mechanical binding and sensor feedback before condemning the intake manifold.
  • Audi BKH 3.2 FSI and 3.0 TFSI bulletins apply only to listed vehicles. Verify repairs through the OEM runner-control test.
