P0884: TCM Power Input Signal Intermittent — what it means, the affected system and what to check before replacing parts.
Meaning, symptoms, causes and checks
TCM power input: The response is intermittent or unstable; a normal reading at another moment does not exclude the recorded condition. This concerns power reaching the transmission controller, not hydraulic transmission pressure. Confirm the supply circuit rather than assuming the gearbox has failed.
Affected system: Transmission controller electrical supply
Symptoms
- An engine or transmission warning may appear, with hesitant or harsh gear changes.
- Intermittent loss of TCM power can leave the gearbox in a limited operating mode.
Possible causes
- Loose, corroded or damaged power and ground connections to the transmission control module may interrupt its supply.
- A weak battery, unstable charging voltage or, less commonly, a TCM defect can cause intermittent power-input problems.
What to check
- Inspect battery terminals, relevant supply fuses and accessible TCM harness connections for looseness or corrosion.
- Have the TCM supply and ground tested using the exact vehicle wiring diagram, preferably while the intermittent fault is present; review associated fault codes before suspecting the module.
