P0482: Cooling fan 3 control — circuit fault — what it means, the affected system and what to check before replacing parts.
Meaning, symptoms, causes and checks
The monitor for cooling fan 3 control reports a problem in the named circuit; an open, short or particular failed part is not established by the label alone. The fan number identifies a control channel; it does not establish the relay location or motor layout. Circuit faults and fan-speed faults are different conditions.
Affected system: Engine cooling fan control
Symptoms
- Engine overheating
- Cooling fan stays on constantly
- Cooling fan fails to activate
- Check Engine light illuminated
Possible causes
- Blown cooling fan fuse
- Defective cooling fan relay 3
- Damaged cooling fan control module
- Failed cooling fan motor
- Corroded or damaged wiring harness
What to check
- Inspect the cooling fan fuse and relay 3 for signs of failure
- Check the cooling fan motor for continuity and power supply
- Examine the wiring harness and connectors for corrosion or breaks
- Test the cooling fan control module signal from the PCM
- Verify proper operation of the engine coolant temperature sensor
