P0129 — Barometric Pressure Too Low

P0129: Barometric Pressure Too Low — what it means, the affected system and what to check before replacing parts.

Meaning, symptoms, causes and checks

Barometric Pressure Too Low. Basic catalogue definition; diagnostic details have not yet been reviewed.

Affected system: Powertrain

Symptoms

  • Check-engine warning and sometimes weak power or poor fuel adjustment.
  • A low BARO reading can represent true atmospheric conditions or a sensor/reporting issue.

Possible causes

  • Faulty barometric sensor or wiring/contact fault.
  • Unusual measured ambient pressure, obstructed sensor vent or ECM interpretation fault depending on design.

What to check

  • Confirm P0129; record barometric reading, altitude/environment and related MAP/boost DTCs.
  • With ignition on and engine off, compare BARO with a reliable local reference adjusted for elevation and MAP if applicable.
  • Inspect the separate or integrated BARO sensor, vent and connector in the OEM location.
  • Check signal/reference/ground against the vehicle schematic; do not assume a universal atmospheric threshold.
  • Repair confirmed sensor or circuit fault and validate new BARO readings.
