P0127: Intake Air Temperature Too High — what it means, the affected system and what to check before replacing parts.
Meaning, symptoms, causes and checks
Intake Air Temperature Too High. Basic catalogue definition; diagnostic details have not yet been reviewed.
Affected system: Powertrain
Symptoms
- Check-engine warning, possible reduced performance or heat-related power limiting.
- Actual intake air can be excessively hot, but an erroneous temperature signal can produce a similar code.
Possible causes
- High intake-air temperature due to heat soak, poor charge-air cooling or intake routing.
- Faulty IAT sensor, poor connectors or circuit faults reporting implausible temperature.
What to check
- Confirm P0127 and note intake temperature, engine load, speed and outside temperature.
- Compare IAT against ambient after an overnight cold soak; avoid interpreting heat soak as a persistent fault.
- Inspect intake ducts, charge-air cooler and sensor wiring as fitted to this engine.
- Check IAT live response, supply/ground and sensor characteristic using OEM specifications.
- Repair a confirmed cooling/intake fault or replace a failed sensor; check under similar operating conditions.
