C0063: Yaw Rate Sensor — what it means, the affected system and what to check before replacing parts.
Meaning, symptoms, causes and checks
C0063 points to the yaw-rate sensing function but does not, alone, prove a failed sensor. In Stellantis bulletin 08-007-23, C0063-29 denotes an invalid yaw-rate signal on specified 2022 Jeep Compass vehicles; ABS software can be implicated and stability-control or electric-parking-brake warnings may illuminate. Only VIN-qualified vehicles should follow that bulletin's ABS reprogramming path; other makes require their own diagnostic tree.
Affected system: Chassis motion sensing and stability control
Symptoms
- ABS, traction-control, stability-control, steering, or tire-pressure warning light
- ABS or stability intervention may be unavailable
- Speedometer or steering behavior may be abnormal
- Normal base braking may remain but driver-assistance functions can be reduced
Possible causes
- Wheel-speed sensor, encoder ring, steering-angle sensor, or acceleration sensor fault
- Damaged harness, connector corrosion, poor ground, or incorrect supply voltage
- Incorrect sensor calibration or chassis-module configuration
- Brake, bearing, tire, steering, or suspension mechanical problem
What to check
- Read codes from ABS, stability, steering, suspension, and powertrain modules
- Save freeze-frame and failure-type information
- Inspect the affected corner or sensor and compare live values side by side
- Perform circuit and mechanical tests from vehicle service information
- Calibrate sensors if required and verify the repair on a safe road test
- Compare all wheel speeds and chassis sensor values during a controlled test
- Inspect sensor wiring, encoder rings, bearings, tires, and connectors
- Verify power, ground, signal, and required sensor calibration
